Justice O. A. Oresanya of the Lagos State High Court, Ikeja, has adjourned to January 19, 2026, the hearing of a suit filed by members of the Onikoyi Royal Family contesting the appointment and installation of Prince Kunle Fafunwa as the Oba Onikoyi of Ikoyi and Moba Land.
The claimants, who are opposing Fafunwa’s ascension to the traditional throne, approached the court seeking to invalidate his selection and installation.
They argue that due process was not followed and that the appointment does not reflect the legitimate wishes of the royal lineage.
The matter came up for hearing on Monday, but the court shifted the proceedings to the new date to allow for further preparations and the resolution of pending applications.
With the adjournment, all parties are expected to return in January for substantive hearing on the case, which has generated significant interest within the Onikoyi community and among stakeholders in Lagos traditional institutions.
