Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has alleged that officers of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) seized her international passport at an airport, effectively stopping her from travelling out of the country.In a statement shared on her social media handle, the lawmaker expressed shock over the incident, saying she was not given any official reason for the confiscation of her travel document.
According to her, immigration officers intercepted her during departure checks and informed her that her name was reportedly on a “watch list,” although they refused to disclose who ordered the action or the reason behind it.“This is a clear act of intimidation,” she said, calling on relevant authorities to intervene and respect her constitutional rights to freedom of movement.As of press time, the Nigerian Immigration Service had yet to issue an official statement regarding the alleged seizure.
