Gunmen Abduct Truck Driver on Akure–Owo Highway

Some unidentified gunmen have reportedly abducted a truck driver, identified as Tobi Oluwatuyi, along the Akure–Owo Expressway at Ilu Abo, in the Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State.According to reports, the incident occurred when Oluwatuyi was driving through the area before being ambushed by the armed men, who blocked the highway and forced him out of his vehicle at gunpoint.

Eyewitnesses said the assailants shot sporadically into the air to scare motorists and commuters, causing panic and forcing many to flee into nearby bushes.A source said, “The gunmen suddenly appeared on the road and stopped the truck. They ordered the driver to come down and whisked him away into the forest. People were running for their lives.”Confirming the incident, the Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, said the command had been informed of the abduction and that efforts were ongoing to rescue the victim unhurt.

She added that security operatives, including the police and local vigilante groups, had been deployed to comb the area in search of the kidnappers and their victim.The abduction adds to a growing list of kidnapping incidents along major highways in Ondo State, raising concerns over the safety of commuters and transport workers in the region.
