
The Ebonyi State Police Command has arrested a middle-aged man, identified as Chukwuma Onwe, for allegedly selling his five-day-old baby boy for โฆ1.5 million.According to reports, Onwe was apprehended following intelligence gathered by police operatives about the suspicious sale of an infant in the state. Investigations revealed that the suspect had conspired to sell the newborn shortly after birth to an undisclosed buyer.

Confirming the arrest, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the command, DSP Joshua Ukandu, stated that the suspect is currently in custody while efforts are underway to apprehend others connected to the illicit transaction.Ukandu condemned the act, describing it as both inhumane and criminal.He assured that the command remains committed to uncovering the full circumstances surrounding the incident and ensuring justice is served.

The baby, sources say, has been rescued and placed under protective care pending further investigation.The police have urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities related to child trafficking to the nearest station.
