Femi Falana Speaks on Nnamdi Kanu’s Detention

News

Human rights lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Femi Falana, has described the case of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), as a purely political issue rather than a criminal one.

According to Falana, the continued detention of Kanu is unnecessary and could easily be resolved through dialogue and political negotiation. He argued that if the Nigerian government can engage in peace talks and negotiate with known band!ts, insurgents, and other cr!m!nal groups in the country, there should be no reason it cannot do the same to peacefully resolve Kanu’s matter.

Falana emphasized that political problems require political solutions, adding that prolonged legal battles and detentions only deepen national divisions and mistrust. He urged the government to adopt a fair, democratic approach and engage all relevant stakeholders to bring lasting peace and unity to the country.
