“My fellow Nigerians,On this 65th anniversary of our independence, I stand before you with gratitude for how far we have come as a nation, and with resolve to overcome the challenges that still confront us.I am fully aware of the pains many of our people endure as a result of insecurity—whether it is the menace of banditry, terrorism, kidnapping, or communal violence.
We have lost innocent lives, and we cannot deny the grief of families and communities that continue to suffer.But let me reassure you this morning: Nigeria is winning the war against insecurity. It may not always appear so when you read the headlines or hear of isolated attacks, but I assure you that the tide is turning. Our gallant security forces have recorded remarkable successes in dismantling terrorist camps, destroying bandit hideouts, and rescuing hostages from the hands of kidnappers.We are strengthening our armed forces with better equipment, improved welfare, and modern training. We are enhancing intelligence gathering and boosting collaboration among security agencies.
Beyond this, we are working with local communities and traditional leaders to ensure that criminals no longer find safe havens among us.This fight is not yet over, but we are advancing steadily. We will not relent until every Nigerian—farmer, trader, student, worker, and child—can live in peace without fear of violence.I ask you, my fellow countrymen and women, do not lose hope. Stand with your government, support our security forces, and remain vigilant.
Together, we will secure this land, for insecurity will never define the destiny of Nigeria.On this day of independence, let us renew our faith in the unity of our country. Let us honor the sacrifices of those who came before us by ensuring that freedom and safety are guaranteed for generations yet unborn.May God bless you all, and may God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
