High Chief Dr. Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, has once again reaffirmed his stance on peace and unity in the Niger Delta region. In his words, he made it clear that no Ijaw son or daughter will ever be allowed to engage in conflict with the Itsekiri people, who he described as brothers and sisters in every sense of the word.
Tompolo emphasized that despite the long history of intimidation, harassment, and provocations often meted out to the Ijaw people by some elements within the Itsekiri community, the Ijaw nation has continued to remain calm, patient, and restrained, choosing not to retaliate or respond with violence. According to him, this show of maturity is not out of weakness but a conscious decision rooted in the belief that bloodshed among brothers can never bring progress to the land.
He further explained that as a father figure and custodian of peace in the Niger Delta, he sees every ethnic group—whether Ijaw, Itsekiri, Urhobo, Isoko, or others—as his children, and therefore holds equal affection for all. To him, the bond that ties the different tribes together is stronger than whatever differences may exist, and it is on this foundation of brotherhood that he calls for understanding, tolerance, and cooperation.
Tompolo also warned against individuals or groups attempting to sow seeds of division between the Ijaw and Itsekiri, stressing that such actions only serve the interests of those who do not wish to see the Niger Delta united. He reminded all parties that true development, economic progress, and stability can only thrive when the people of the region live in peace and work together as one.
In conclusion, he called on both Ijaw and Itsekiri youths to embrace dialogue, unity, and peaceful coexistence, affirming that the Niger Delta is one family, and no child of his will be permitted to raise a hand against another.
