The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Lagos State has vehemently refuted the allegations of vote manipulation made by the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The electoral body described the claims regarding the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise in the state as baseless and inaccurate.
In a recent statement, the Lagos State Resident Electoral Commissioner for INEC, Olusegun Agbaje, addressed the concerns raised by the ADC. He clarified that the claims made by the political party were founded on misinformation and a fundamental misunderstanding of the voter registration process. Agbaje emphasized that INEC operates with the utmost transparency and that the CVR process is conducted in an open and verifiable mannel.
The ADC had alleged that INEC officials were deliberately manipulating the registration figures to favor a particular political party. They cited discrepancies in the number of newly registered voters and the number of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) collected. However, INEC has provided a detailed breakdown of the registration data, highlighting that the figures are constantly being updated as the process progresses. The commission also reiterated its commitment to ensuring a free, fair, and credible election in the state.
