Abuja, Nigeria – Nigeria’s triumphant Super Falcons, fresh off their record-extending 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) victory, officially presented their coveted trophy to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the State House in Abuja today.
The team, led by captain Rasheedat Ajibade and goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, showcased the glittering WAFCON trophy to President Tinubu and First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu during a celebratory reception.
The event was attended by various government officials and football administrators, all eager to commend the Super Falcons on their historic achievement.
President Tinubu lauded the team’s exceptional performance, emphasizing their resilience and the “indomitable Nigerian spirit” displayed throughout the tournament, particularly in their dramatic 3-2 comeback victory against host nation Morocco in the final.
Beyond the accolades, President Tinubu announced significant rewards for the victorious squad. Each of the 24 players will receive a $100,000 cash award and be conferred with the national honor of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON).
Additionally, every player will be gifted a home in the Renewed Hope Estate, a government-backed housing initiative. The 11 team officials also received a $50,000 cash reward each.
The Super Falcons’ victory has been widely celebrated across Nigeria, with the team receiving a hero’s welcome upon their return to Abuja, including an open-bus parade through the capital city to allow fans to share in their success.
