Lagos State Police Command’s reaction to the viral video:
Following a widely circulated video depicting a large group of young men reportedly arriving in Lagos and congregating at a company in Ibeju-Lekki, the Lagos State Police Command swiftly investigated the matter.
According to a statement released by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, officers were dispatched to the location on May 14, 2025, immediately after the information surfaced.
Their initial findings revealed that the group consisted of eighty-nine (89) young men who had traveled from Katsina State. These individuals, the investigation showed, were recruited as labourers for the Dangote Refinery situated in the Lekki area.
CSP Hundeyin stated that a contractor associated with the refinery presented himself to the police and verified that he was responsible for recruiting and transporting these labourers from Katsina for legitimate work at the facility. This account was further supported by the Chief Security Officer (CSO) of the Dangote Refinery, who confirmed that the labourers had undergone necessary verification and clearance procedures for entry and would be residing within the refinery premises.
The police also conducted thorough searches of the individuals and found no incriminating evidence. Furthermore, each person provided identification, including their National Identification Numbers (NINs), which were successfully verified.
The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Police Command, CP Olohundare Jimoh, has called on the public to remain calm and refrain from disseminating unconfirmed or sensational information that could incite unnecessary anxiety or fear.
He reaffirmed the Command’s dedication to upholding law and order throughout Lagos State and assured the public of their continued commitment to promptly address all matters concerning public safety.
