
A 200-level Mass Communication student at the University of Ilorin has reportedly died by suicide due to financial hardship. The student, whose name has been withheld, allegedly ingested a poisonous substance at his off-campus residence in the Tanke area of Ilorin last week while his roommate was in class. A suicide note was reportedly found at the scene, citing his inability to cope with financial difficulties.The student was reportedly a high-achieving student with a 4.5 CGPA. Sources at the university indicated that he was being supported financially by his widowed mother, a retired teacher, following the death of his father a few years prior. The student’s financial struggles reportedly began last year, and his roommate mentioned that they and other friends had been contributing funds for his tuition and food. A university official confirmed the death, expressing sadness and shock over the incident.
