IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu is suing Nigeria Police Force spokesperson Olumuyiwa Adejobi for defamation.
Kanu’s lawyer filed the suit in the FCT High Court on January 27, alleging that Adejobi’s January 25 press statement falsely portrayed Kanu as a terrorist leader. In the statement, Adejobi described IPOB as a “proscribed terrorist organisation” and mentioned the killing of suspected ESN and IPOB members.
Kanu’s suit claims these statements, widely disseminated, have damaged his reputation and prejudiced his ongoing legal cases.
He is seeking a retraction, a published apology in three national newspapers (The Sun, Daily Trust, and Vanguard), N20 billion in damages, an injunction against further defamatory statements, and payment of his legal costs.
