Beatrice Ekweremadu, wife of former Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, has returned to Nigeria after serving her sentence in a UK prison.

In May 2023, Ekweremadu, his wife, and Dr. Obinna Obeta was convicted of trafficking a young Nigerian man to the UK for the purpose of organ harvesting. This landmark verdict, the first of its kind under the UK’s Modern Slavery Act 2015, found the couple guilty of exploiting the victim for his kidney.

Ike Ekweremadu was sentenced to 10 years in prison, while Beatrice received a six-year sentence despite citing health concerns. Dr. Obeta was also sentenced to 10 years imprisonment.

Beatrice Ekweremadu arrived in Abuja today, January 22nd, and was met with jubilation from her kinsmen.
