The Federal Government has approved a comprehensive reform of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), introducing sweeping changes aimed at modernising the scheme and making it more relevant to national development.
One of the key reforms is the replacement of military leadership in orientation camp activities with trained civilian administrators. According to the government, the move is intended to transform the NYSC into a more youth-focused and development-driven institution while maintaining discipline and order throughout the orientation programme.
As part of the overhaul, the NYSC uniform will also be redesigned to reflect a modern identity while preserving the scheme’s core values and national heritage.
The reforms will place greater emphasis on practical skills acquisition, entrepreneurship, digital innovation, and job creation. Corps members are expected to receive more hands-on training to improve their employability and encourage self-reliance after completing the service year.
The Federal Government said the restructuring is designed to better prepare Nigerian graduates for today’s labour market and strengthen the NYSC’s contribution to national unity and economic growth.
