Former Kaduna State Governor and ex-National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ahmed Makarfi, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to declare a state of emergency on insecurity across the country.
Makarfi made the call while expressing concern over the worsening security situation in various parts of Nigeria, particularly the increasing cases of banditry, terrorism, kidnapping, and violent attacks on communities.
According to him, the persistent insecurity has reached an alarming level and requires urgent, decisive, and coordinated action from all levels of government and security agencies. He stressed that the safety of lives and property should remain the government’s highest priority.
The former governor noted that while political leaders often focus on governance and development, such efforts would yield little result if citizens continue to live in fear. He urged the Federal Government to mobilize all available resources and strengthen collaboration among security agencies to tackle the growing threats.
Makarfi further appealed to political leaders, traditional rulers, community stakeholders, and citizens to support efforts aimed at restoring peace and stability across the country. He emphasized that addressing insecurity requires a collective national response rather than isolated interventions.
He also called for improved intelligence gathering, better welfare for security personnel, and stronger measures to prevent criminal groups from operating freely in affected regions.
The former PDP chairman maintained that declaring a state of emergency on insecurity would demonstrate the government’s commitment to confronting the challenge and help coordinate a more effective response to the crisis.
