Retired boxing champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. is facing two felony charges in Las Vegas after prosecutors accused him of writing a bad check to purchase a luxury watch from a high-end resale store.
Mayweather was scheduled to make an initial appearance in Las Vegas Justice Court on Monday. Although he did not attend in person, an attorney appeared on his behalf, according to the Clark County District Attorney’s Office. The case has been set for a hearing in September.
Court records show that the 49-year-old boxing icon was charged in April with felony theft and drawing and passing a check without sufficient funds with the intent to defraud.
According to prosecutors, Mayweather allegedly wrote a $200,000 check through Wells Fargo Bank in December 2024 to purchase a watch from a Las Vegas luxury resale store, Gold and Beyond. Authorities claim there were insufficient funds in the account at the time the check was issued.
The criminal case adds to a growing list of legal and financial disputes involving the former world champion. Mayweather is also facing a lawsuit in New York over claims that he failed to pay rent on a Manhattan apartment. In addition, he has reportedly been involved in financial disagreements with multiple jewelers.
Earlier this year, Mayweather also filed a lawsuit against his former business manager, accusing him of orchestrating a years-long fraud scheme.
The case remains ongoing, and no verdict has been reached regarding the allegations.
