The Ekiti State Police Command has arrested a man identified as Sunday Olawale for allegedly sharing a fake video claiming to show a bandit attack in Are Ekiti.
According to the police, the video circulated on social media created panic among residents and was misleading, as it did not represent any real security incident in the community.
The suspect was arrested and is being investigated for allegedly spreading false information capable of causing fear and disrupting public peace.
The police warned members of the public against sharing unverified content online, especially materials capable of creating tension or damaging public confidence.
Authorities also reiterated that anyone found guilty of using social media to spread false claims, incite fear, or engage in cyber-related offences would face the full weight of the law.
