Four Dead, 24 Injured as Warri–Itakpe Train Derails in Delta State

The Federal Government has confirmed that four people have died and 24 others sustained varying degrees of injuries following a train derailment along the Warri–Itakpe Train Service corridor near Agbor in Delta State.

The incident occurred when the train reportedly went off track while travelling on the route linking Warri to Itakpe, causing panic among passengers and leading to emergency response operations at the scene.

According to official confirmation from the Federal Government, rescue teams were quickly deployed to evacuate passengers from the affected coaches and provide immediate medical attention to the injured. The injured victims were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment, while those with severe conditions are being closely monitored.

Authorities have not yet released full details on what caused the derailment, but investigations have commenced to determine whether it was due to technical failure, track conditions, or other operational issues.

The Federal Government also expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and assured the public that efforts are ongoing to prevent a recurrence and ensure safety across the rail corridor.
