The African Labour and Employment Relations Association (ALERA) has expressed deep concern over the escalating wave of kidnappings and insecurity across Nigeria, urging the Federal Government to take decisive steps to protect citizens and restore public confidence.
The labour body condemned the increasing incidents of abductions, banditry, and violent attacks in various parts of the country, describing the situation as alarming and unacceptable.
According to ALERA, the persistent insecurity has not only endangered lives but has also negatively affected economic activities, discouraged investment, and created fear among workers and ordinary Nigerians.
The association called on security agencies to strengthen intelligence gathering, improve coordination, and intensify efforts aimed at dismantling criminal networks responsible for kidnappings and other violent crimes.
ALERA further urged the Federal Government to prioritize the welfare and operational capacity of security personnel while implementing sustainable measures to address the root causes of insecurity, including unemployment, poverty, and social exclusion.
The labour body stressed that safeguarding lives and property remains one of the primary responsibilities of government, adding that urgent and effective action is needed to stem the growing insecurity and reassure Nigerians of their safety.
It also appealed to citizens to support security agencies by providing credible information that could aid ongoing efforts to combat crime and criminality across the country.
