Delta Kidnapper Sentenced to Death by Hanging as Supreme Court Upholds Conviction

News Trending

The Supreme Court has affirmed the death sentence imposed on a convicted kidnapper from Delta State, bringing an end to a lengthy legal battle.

In a unanimous judgment delivered by a five-member panel, the apex court dismissed the appeal filed by the convict, Halim, describing it as lacking merit. The court upheld the decisions of both the trial court and the Court of Appeal, which had earlier found him guilty of kidnapping and sentenced him to death by hanging.

The justices ruled that the prosecution had successfully proved its case beyond reasonable doubt and found no reason to interfere with the concurrent judgments of the lower courts.

With the Supreme Court’s decision, Halim’s conviction and death sentence remain valid, marking the final stage of the judicial process since the apex court’s verdict is binding and cannot be appealed further.

The judgment is being viewed as a strong statement against kidnapping and other violent crimes, which have remained a major security concern in many parts of the country.
