According to security sources, the insurgents overran the military formation after a fierce gun battle with troops stationed at the base. During the attack, five soldiers and three members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) who were on duty lost their lives.

The attack is the latest in a series of renewed offensives by insurgent groups in parts of Borno State, raising concerns over the security situation in the North-East region.

Military authorities are yet to release an official statement on the incident, while efforts are reportedly ongoing to track down the attackers and prevent further assaults in the area.

Residents have expressed fears over the resurgence of terrorist activities, calling on security agencies to strengthen operations and provide greater protection for vulnerable communities and military formations.
