Armed bandits who abducted former Director of Defence Information, Maj.-Gen. Rabe Abubakar Batsari, and his wife in Katsina State have reportedly demanded a prisoner exchange as a condition for their release.
According to sources familiar with the development who spoke to The Guardian, the bandit leader identified as Kachallah Muhammad made contact with the victims’ family on Monday. This was less than 48 hours after the abduction occurred along the Marabar Musawa–Kafinsoli road in Matazu Local Government Area of the state.
The incident has heightened concerns over insecurity in parts of Katsina State, where abductions and armed attacks have continued to affect rural communities and road users.
Authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the reported demand or the ongoing efforts to secure the release of the retired senior military officer and his wife.
