Lagos NURTW Chairman Condemns Assault on Female Driver, Affirms Union’s Commitment to Professionalism
Alhaji Mustapha Adekunle Adio (Tafa Sego), the Chairman of the Lagos State Council of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), on Monday met with Miss Yetunde Amole, the female driver reportedly brutalised by a tout in Ajah.
At the union’s Oko Oba, Agege secretariat, Alhaji Sego strongly denounced the assault and clarified that the perpetrator is not a member of the NURTW, but an unaffiliated “area boy.”
Miss Amole was warmly welcomed by the union chairman, who paused his schedule to meet with her. He encouraged her to continue her work without fear of harassment from NURTW members.
Alhaji Sego reiterated the union’s dedication to professional conduct, stating that NURTW members are trained to be respectful and responsible. He also praised the Lagos State Government for the prompt arrest of the suspect and pledged the union’s support for ensuring justice is served.
“We will ensure that Yetunde Amole gets justice in this instance. This will serve as a strong warning to others not to harass any driver in the state,” he declared.
Alhaji Sego urged the public to respect drivers’ fundamental human rights and stressed the union’s zero-tolerance policy towards harassment of its members. He also cautioned NURTW members against any actions that could damage the union’s reputation.
