Wayne Rooney has delivered a scathing assessment of Manchester United’s struggles, insisting the club has “lost its soul” and casting doubt on manager Ruben Amorim’s ability to reverse their decline.The former United captain, who won every major honour during his 13 years at Old Trafford, said he does not believe Amorim has the authority or tactical edge required to restore the team’s lost identity.
“United doesn’t look like the club I knew,” Rooney said. “There’s no connection, no clear direction. I’ve got no faith Amorim can bring that back.”
Amorim, who was appointed to replace Erik ten Hag amid high expectations, has faced increasing criticism following a string of poor performances and dressing-room unrest. United sit well off the pace in the Premier League, with morale among players and fans reportedly at a low point.Rooney argued that the problems at Old Trafford run deeper than the manager but stressed that leadership on the touchline remains a crucial part of any revival.“Of course, the issues come from the top as well, but the manager has to set the tone,” he added.
“Right now, it’s hard to see things changing.”United’s hierarchy is under mounting pressure to back Amorim or consider yet another change in the dugout as frustration continues to build among supporters.
