Warri – The Delta State Government has showered praises on High Chief Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, describing him as a pivotal architect of peace, security, and development in the Niger Delta as he celebrates his 55th birthday.

In a goodwill message released on Sunday, April 12, 2026, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori hailed Tompolo as a respected and influential figure whose consistent efforts have fostered stability and boosted national economic interests in the oil-rich region.

The governor, through his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, specifically commended Tompolo’s leadership as Chairman of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited. His initiatives, according to the statement, have been instrumental in combating crude oil theft, increasing oil production, and enhancing Nigeria’s revenue generation.

Oborevwori also acknowledged Tompolo’s substantial support for the Delta State Security Trust Fund, describing it as a clear demonstration of his commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state.

“The Federal Government and other Niger Delta states equally recognise and appreciate Tompolo’s dedication to sustaining peace and harmony in the region,” the governor noted. He further described the celebrant as “a proud son of the Niger Delta who has continued to work with stakeholders to promote development and maintain stability in various communities.”

In a separate felicitation from the Delta State Government, Commissioner for Special Duties in the Government House, Ifeanyi Osuoza, described Tompolo as “a towering figure in the Niger Delta struggle and a symbol of resilience, courage, and cultural pride.”

The statement highlighted Tompolo’s unwavering commitment to tackling the region’s long-standing challenges, including under-development, economic marginalisation, and environmental degradation.

“You have not only carried the burden of a people’s struggle, but have also emerged as a repository of their hopes, identity, and collective aspirations,” the message read in part.

“Through your courage, personal sacrifices, and deep love for your people, you have helped to engender peace, restore dignity, and secure a stronger voice for the Niger Delta within the Nigerian federation. Your contributions remain indispensable, your influence far-reaching, and your impact enduring.

“You are indeed a blessing to the Ijaw nation, the Niger Delta, and Nigeria as a whole.”

The government wished the Ebipamowei of Gbaramatu Kingdom continued strength, wisdom, and good health to enable him to sustain his service to the people.

Born on April 12, 1971, in Okerenkoko in the Gbaramatu Kingdom of Delta State, Tompolo rose to prominence as a leading voice in the Niger Delta agitation for equity and resource control. He has since transitioned into a major stakeholder in regional security and economic initiatives, earning recognition for helping to restore relative peace while supporting development efforts.

Today’s tributes from the Delta State Government underscore his evolution from an activist to a key player in Niger Delta peace and security architecture, with many stakeholders viewing him as an indispensable asset to the Ijaw nation and the broader region.
