๐Ÿ›‘ BREAKING: Armed Robbers Terrorize EKSU Hostels, Students Beg for Protection

News

Students of Ekiti State University (EKSU) are living in fear as armed robbers have launched a series of coordinated attacks on off-campus hostels, especially in the Phase 2 area.

Eyewitnesses report that groups of 20โ€“30 armed men, wielding guns and machetes, storm hostels in the early hours of the morning or late at night, breaking into rooms, carting away phones, laptops, cash, and other valuables. Several students have been injured while many others fled their residences in panic.

The EKSU Studentsโ€™ Union Government (SUG), led by President Osunyomi Hezekalh, strongly condemned the attacks and demanded immediate action from university management and security agencies.

โ€œWe are deeply concerned and saddened by these repeated security breaches that have continued to threaten the safety, peace of mind, and academic performance of our students. No student deserves to live in fear while pursuing their education.โ€

The union has engaged relevant authorities to boost security presence, improve lighting, and enhance patrols around student areas. They also advised students to remain vigilant, avoid walking alone at night, and prioritize safety over valuables.

With examinations currently ongoing, many students say the constant fear is affecting their studies.

โ€œWe are writing exams but armed men are attacking hostels every night,โ€ one student lamented.

The university community is calling on the Ekiti State Government and the Police to urgently restore safety in the area.
