Suspected bandits have launched a deadly attack on the Gwana community in Alkaleri Local Government Area of Bauchi State, killing two soldiers and a vigilante member while abducting three resident in a fresh wave of violence that continues to plague the troubled community.
The Bauchi State Police Command confirmed the attack, saying security personnel were engaged in an operation in the area when they came under heavy fire from armed bandits. Two soldiers lost their lives in the ensuing gun battle, alongside a local vigilante who was part of the response team. Three civilians were seized by the attackers and their whereabouts remain unknown.
The attack is the latest in a series of violent raids on Gwana District, which has become one of the most troubled flashpoints in Bauchi State. In recent weeks, the area has witnessed coordinated bandit incursions, mass abductions, and the displacement of entire communities — with residents describing a near-total breakdown of security.
Security forces have been deployed to the area to pursue the attackers and rescue the abducted residents. Investigations are ongoing.
Authorities are yet to make any arrests in connection with the attack.
