
Sheriff Oborevwori was ably represented at the grand opening ceremony of the Niger Delta Games in Benin City, Edo State.

The Governor was represented by the Delta State Commissioner for Energy, Engr. Michael Anoka, who attended the sporting event on his behalf. The Niger Delta Games, organized by Dunamis-Icon Limited under the leadership of Sir Itiako Malik Ikpokpo and sponsored by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), is themed “Beyond Oil: Harnessing Talents.”

The festival brings together young athletes from across the Niger Delta region to showcase their skills, promote unity, and strengthen regional integration through sports.

Delivering the Governor’s goodwill message, Engr. Anoka commended the NDDC for creating a platform dedicated to discovering and nurturing young talents. He emphasized that sports remain a powerful tool for social integration, discipline, and economic empowerment among youths in the region.

Speaking with journalists, he noted that the Niger Delta Games would not only promote sports development but also channel the energy of young participants into productive and rewarding ventures.

He further applauded the Edo State Government for successfully hosting the event and providing a conducive atmosphere for athletes and officials. Engr. Anoka encouraged Team Delta athletes to compete with excellence, integrity, and sportsmanship, urging them to serve as worthy ambassadors of the state.

The opening ceremony attracted government officials, sports administrators, NGOs, traditional rulers, and youths from across the Niger Delta, marking the beginning of a vibrant sporting festival focused on talent discovery and regional unity.
