The Nigerian Hydrological Services Agency (NiHSA) has issued a flood alert for several states, including Bayelsa, Kogi, Anambra, and Delta, warning of possible heavy flooding in the coming days.According to a statement from the agency, recent hydrological data and weather forecasts indicate a steady rise in water levels along major rivers, especially the Niger and Benue basins.

This development, NiHSA said, poses significant risks to low-lying and riverine communities in the affected states. The agency urged residents, farmers, and local authorities to take precautionary measures, including relocating from flood-prone areas and safeguarding valuable property. It also advised state governments to activate emergency response teams and ensure proper drainage systems to mitigate potential damage.

NiHSA emphasized that the warning follows persistent rainfall across the country and the release of water from upstream dams, which could worsen the situation if not properly managed. The agency assured that it would continue to monitor river levels and issue timely updates as necessary to prevent loss of lives and property.
