Many Feared Dead in Midnight Tanker Explosion on Abeokuta–Sagamu Expressway

A midnight tanker explosion along the Abeokuta–Sagamu Expressway in Ogun State has reportedly claimed several lives, though the exact number of casualties is yet to be confirmed.Eyewitnesses said the incident occurred when a fuel-laden tanker lost control and went up in flames, engulfing nearby vehicles and trapping passengers.

The fire, which broke out around midnight, spread rapidly and caused panic among residents and motorists in the area.Emergency responders, including men of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the police, and Ogun State Fire Service, were deployed to the scene to contain the inferno and assist victims.

However, the extent of damage to lives and property could not be immediately ascertained as rescue operations were still ongoing at the time of filing this report.Authorities have urged motorists to avoid the route temporarily as efforts continue to clear the wreckage and restore traffic flow.The Ogun State government and security agencies are expected to provide an update on the casualty figure once investigations are completed.
