Doctors in Hapur, Uttar Pradesh, India, have carried out a rare and shocking surgery in which they removed dozens of household items, including steel spoons, toothbrushes, and pens, from the stomach of a patient.According to reports, the medical team extracted 29 steel spoons, 19 toothbrushes, and two pens from the man’s stomach during a complicated procedure that lasted several hours.Hospital officials described the case as one of the most unusual they had ever encountered.
The patient, whose identity has not been disclosed, was admitted with severe abdominal pain, discomfort, and difficulty eating. After medical examinations and scans, doctors were stunned to discover a large cluster of foreign objects lodged inside his digestive system.“This is not something we see every day. We were shocked to find so many items inside one stomach. It required delicate surgery to ensure none of the objects damaged surrounding organs during removal,” one of the attending surgeons told local media.Doctors believe the man may be suffering from a rare psychological disorder known as pica, a condition where individuals develop cravings to eat non-food items.
The patient is said to be recovering well after the operation.
