The Federal Government on Tuesday accused unnamed interests of attempting to obstruct the ongoing defamation case against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan of Kogi Central.At the resumed proceedings before the Federal High Court in Abuja, government lawyers alleged that there was a calculated plot to prevent witnesses from testifying in the matter.
The prosecution insisted that the delay tactics were aimed at derailing the trial and undermining the judicial process.Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, who is facing charges of defamation, was present in court. The case, filed by the Federal Government, seeks to establish her alleged culpability in making statements considered damaging and injurious to reputation.
The presiding judge adjourned the matter to allow the prosecution and defence to prepare for the appearance of key witnesses at the next sitting.Government counsel vowed to proceed with the case to its conclusion despite what it described as orchestrated efforts to scuttle the trial.
