Veteran Nollywood actress Lola Idije has spoken out about the challenges women face when raising children without the support of a husband, urging society to stop judging women based on their marital status.
The actress noted that not every woman has the opportunity to get married or enjoy the support of a male partner while raising her children. According to her, some women are left with the responsibility of handling motherhood alone, yet that does not make them less intelligent, capable or worthy of respect.
She further stressed that being unmarried should never be a reason to look down on a woman, pointing out that some women may simply get married later in life.
Lola Idije’s message has sparked conversations about single motherhood, societal expectations and the unfair judgment women sometimes face because of their relationship status.
Her comments have also drawn attention to the importance of respecting women and recognising their efforts, regardless of whether they are married or raising children on their own.
