President of the Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, has revealed plans to support about two million vulnerable women across Nigeria by giving them an opportunity to own shares in Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited.
Dangote made the announcement in New York during the 81st United Nations General Assembly while responding to a question on how public-private partnerships can help conflict-affected communities, especially widows and other vulnerable groups.
According to him, the initiative will be carried out through the Aliko Dangote Foundation in collaboration with state governments. The programme is designed to ensure that eligible women can participate in the refinery’s planned Initial Public Offering (IPO), allowing them to benefit from ownership in one of Africa’s largest industrial projects.
Dangote explained that empowering vulnerable women through share ownership could provide long-term economic benefits and help improve livelihoods, particularly for those affected by conflict, poverty, and social challenges.
The proposed partnership between the foundation and state governments is expected to identify qualified beneficiaries and create a framework that will enable them to access and hold shares in the refinery when the public offering begins.
The initiative forms part of broader efforts aimed at promoting financial inclusion, economic empowerment, and sustainable support for vulnerable communities across the country.
