Former Borno State Governor and APC chieftain, Ali Modu Sheriff, has dismissed Peter Obi’s chances of winning the 2027 presidential election, insisting that the former Labour Party presidential candidate will not receive the support of Northern voters.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television, Sheriff said he is not concerned about Obi’s ambition despite his strong showing in the 2023 election, where he secured over six million votes.
According to Sheriff, the political landscape has changed, and he believes the North will not back Obi in 2027. He claimed that many Northerners still remember Obi’s time as governor of Anambra State, alleging that he drove Northerners out of the state.
Sheriff also referenced the political discussions surrounding Rabiu Kwankwaso, claiming some supporters in Kano had expressed reservations about any alliance with Obi.
He further argued that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar also faces an uphill battle, maintaining that many Northerners believe it is still the South’s turn to produce Nigeria’s next president after President Bola Tinubu’s tenure.
