A traditional spiritual practitioner identified as B. Ndiaye has allegedly confessed to the killing of 20-year-old Ndèye Bigué Sène in Tivaouane, Senegal, in what investigators suspect was a ritual murder aimed at gaining wealth.
The suspect was arrested by officers from the Tivaouane urban police station, led by Chief Superintendent Cheikh Ndiaye, following the discovery of the young woman’s body.
According to local media reports, Ndiaye allegedly told investigators that another practitioner, identified only as “Coulibaly,” instructed him to find a young virgin, give her an unidentified substance, stab her, collect her blood and subsequently strangle her.
Ndèye Bigué had travelled to Tivaouane for the Gamou religious celebrations. She was reportedly found dead in a bush on Saturday, August 22, with multiple injuries. Investigators said she had been stabbed four times with a “naw-naw,” described as a large and dangerous knife.
The suspect, who was formerly a fisherman, was reportedly known to the victim. He had previously offered prayers for Ndèye Bigué while she was preparing for her 2026 baccalaureate examinations. Although she did not obtain her diploma, the pair reportedly remained in contact.
Initial investigations indicated that Ndiaye contacted the young woman and arranged to meet her. She reportedly left her home in Tivaouane at about 8 p.m. on Friday, August 21.
Her body was discovered the following day, with police receiving information about the discovery at around 2 p.m.
Investigators reportedly relied on information gathered from residents and an analysis of mobile phone records to identify the suspect.
According to local reports, Ndiaye eventually confessed after being confronted with evidence gathered by the Tivaouane judicial police team.
However, the suspect reportedly denied allegations that he sexually assaulted the victim.
The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the young woman’s death and determine whether anyone else was involved.
