A student advocacy group has raised concerns over the increasing wave of attacks and kidnappings around schools and campuses in the North, stating that the situation is creating fear among students, parents, and academic communities.
According to the group, repeated incidents of banditry have disrupted learning activities, forced some institutions to shut down temporarily, and discouraged many young people from pursuing education in affected areas.
The student body stressed that while the federal government has introduced initiatives such as student loan programs aimed at improving access to education, those efforts may have limited impact if insecurity continues to threaten students’ safety.
They argued that education cannot thrive in an environment where students and lecturers constantly fear attacks, abductions, or violence.
The group called on security agencies and government authorities to take urgent action to strengthen security around schools and campuses, especially in vulnerable northern states.
They also urged authorities to adopt long-term strategies to address the root causes of insecurity and ensure that educational institutions remain safe spaces for learning.
