The Presidency has criticized Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, over his repeated pledge that he would serve only one term if elected president.
Obi had maintained that he would not spend more than four years in office if given the mandate, describing it as part of his commitment to purposeful and accountable leadership.
However, officials of the Presidency of Nigeria dismissed the promise, questioning his credibility and insisting that such political statements cannot be relied upon.
They argued that pledges of this nature are common during election campaigns but are often not binding once candidates assume office. The Presidency further suggested that Obi’s past political remarks raise concerns about consistency, urging Nigerians to treat such assurances with caution.
