Jos — Operatives of the Plateau State Police Command have arrested several suspected armed robbers and individuals linked to bandit networks as informants, in a series of intelligence-led operations across the state.
The suspects, along with recovered exhibits, were paraded before journalists at the command’s headquarters in Jos on Saturday, March 28, 2026.
According to the Commissioner of Police, CP Bassey Ewah, the arrests stemmed from credible intelligence and public tips. In one notable case, police acted swiftly on a victim’s report of armed robbery in Langtang South Local Government Area. The Divisional Police Officer, working with the Armed Robbery Section of the Criminal Investigation Department, led the operation that resulted in the apprehension of the suspects.
During the operations, security forces recovered three locally fabricated AK-47 rifles, two locally made revolvers, other pistols, and rubber guns (improvised firearms) commonly used in criminal activities. The weapons were displayed during the media briefing.
CP Ewah commended members of the public for providing timely and reliable information that enabled the successes. He stressed that the command remains committed to safeguarding lives and property in Plateau State, while remaining open to constructive criticism and feedback to enhance service delivery.
“The suspects include armed robbery offenders and those who serve as informants to bandits and kidnappers by sharing vital information that aids criminal operations,” the police chief noted. He assured that all the arrested individuals would be charged to court for prosecution, in collaboration with the Plateau State Ministry of Justice, particularly the Attorney General’s office, to ensure diligent and timely justice.
Ewah also appreciated the media for highlighting the command’s efforts and urged continued partnership with the public and stakeholders to rid the state of crime and make Plateau safer for all residents.
The development comes amid ongoing security efforts in the region to tackle armed robbery, banditry, and related crimes. The recovered locally fabricated weapons highlight the challenge of illicit arms manufacturing and proliferation in parts of the country.
