The Delta State Police Command has arrested more than 270 criminal suspects and recovered large quantities of illicit drugs during coordinated, intelligence-driven raids on criminal hideouts and black spots in parts of the state.
The operations, carried out on March 25 and 26, 2026, targeted notorious areas in Warri South, Uvwie, Okpe, and Ughelli Local Government Areas. They form part of the Command’s sustained efforts to dismantle criminal networks, curb drug-related activities, and enhance public safety across Delta State.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the raids were led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, with support from tactical units including the Buffalo Operational Team, Crack Squad, Rapid Response Squad, and other specialized teams. The operations relied on credible intelligence from the State Intelligence Department (SID).
March 25 Operation (Warri South, Uvwie, and Okpe LGAs)
On March 25, operatives raided identified criminal hideouts in Ugbrumu and Jeddo communities, as well as other black spots. A total of 59 suspects — 51 males and 8 females — were arrested. Many of the targeted locations, including hotels and a notorious bush bar, were found to be operating as brothels that harboured prostitutes and served as safe havens for criminal elements and suspected cultists. Some of those apprehended were already on the Command’s watch list.
Exhibits recovered during this phase included substances suspected to be codeine, crack cocaine, ‘loud’, ‘colos’, and weeds believed to be Indian hemp.
March 26 Operation (Ughelli)
On March 26, DCP Adejobi led another aggressive raid in Ughelli town, focusing on drug hotspots such as Epini Hotel (along the Ughelli–Patani Expressway), Torsac Hotel, and Primaria Guest House. This operation resulted in the arrest of 213 suspects.
Many of the raided hotels were similarly discovered to function as brothels and bases for criminal activities. Large quantities of illicit drugs were recovered, including Canadian loud, CSC syrup, tramadol, swinol, and Indian hemp.
In total, the two-day operations led to the arrest of over 270 suspects. All those arrested, along with the recovered exhibits, have been transferred to relevant police units — including the Divisional Police Officer of ‘A’ Division in Ughelli, the Rapid Response Squad, and the CP Special Assignment Team — for detailed investigation, profiling, and possible prosecution.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, assured residents that anyone found culpable would be prosecuted in accordance with the law. He reiterated the Command’s commitment to sustaining these operations across the state, including in Sapele and its environs, to rid communities of criminal elements and drug peddlers.
CP Oyeniyi also urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to support the police in crime prevention and detection.
These raids highlight the Delta State Police Command’s intensified crackdown on drug trafficking and associated crimes in the region, with authorities vowing to maintain pressure on criminal networks.
