Renowned Nigerian gospel singer and celebrated Nollywood soundtrack artiste Onos Nancy Brisibi has passed away at the age of 55 after a prolonged illness.
Brisibi, whose powerful and distinctive vocals became synonymous with some of Nollywood’s most iconic classic films, breathed her last on Monday, March 23, 2026. Her family announced the sad news in a statement released on Thursday, March 26, 2026.
Born on November 20, 1970, in Aladja, Udu Local Government Area of Delta State, Onos Brisibi came from a Christian home as the daughter of the late Apostle Ambrose Oproze Brisibi and Deaconess Mary Koko Brisibi. She discovered her musical gift early, beginning to sing at the age of nine. Her soul-stirring voice later took her to Chicago, where she ministered as a passionate gospel singer and praise and worship leader.
Beyond the church, Brisibi left an unforgettable mark in the Nigerian movie industry as one of the most sought-after soundtrack vocalists of the golden Nollywood era. Her emotive voice featured prominently in several blockbuster classics, including:
- Domitilla
- Blood Money
- Mortal Inheritance
- Deadly Passion
- Deadly End (also known as Dead End)
- Shame
and many more. Her contributions brought emotional depth and memorable soundscapes to these films.
In the gospel music scene, she released inspiring songs such as “Our God is Great,” “Jehova,” and “Greater.” She also collaborated with notable artistes like Lagbaja (on the duet “No Do Gragra”), Daniel Wilson, and Sammie Okposo. Her talent earned her awards, including the FAME Music Award for Best Upcoming Artiste and the Diamond Special Recognition Award (USA Edition) in 2013.
The Brisibi family described her as “a devoted Christian, a gifted songstress, and a passionate praise and worship leader whose angelic voice touched many lives as she spread the gospel through music.” They remembered her as “a beautiful, fun-loving woman with a heart of gold, whose faith, warmth, and kindness left lasting impressions on all who knew her.”
She is survived by her daughter, Sarah Brisibi, and other family members.
As tributes continue to pour in from the Nigerian entertainment and gospel music industries, many have described her passing as the silencing of an “angelic voice” that brought comfort, inspiration, and spiritual upliftment to millions.
