Troops of Sector 2 Operation FANSAN YAMMA Kill Six Bandits in Sokoto, Zamfara, and Kebbi

News

Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have intensified coordinated offensives against terrorist enclaves across Sokoto, Zamfara, and Kebbi states, killing at least six suspected bandits and recovering arms, ammunition, and communication equipment in a series of operations conducted this week.

The Nigerian Army disclosed the successes in a press statement issued by Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, Acting Director, Army Public Relations, 8 Division Nigerian Army/Sector 2 Operation FANSAN YAMMA.

In Sokoto State, troops of the COAS Intervention Battalion VII engaged terrorists in two separate encounters at Magonho Forest on March 25, 2026. The fierce confrontations resulted in the neutralisation of three bandits. The troops also recovered three AK-47 rifles and several motorcycles from the scene.

In Zamfara State, troops executed a successful ambush along the Gada Maya–Makakari Village road on the same day, killing two terrorists while others fled in disarray. Items recovered during the operation included one AK-47 rifle, three magazines, 55 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, a Baofeng radio set, two mobile phones, and one motorcycle.

Later that day, suspected terrorists launched a reprisal attack on Kaida Village, accusing residents of collaborating with security forces. Troops responded swiftly and professionally, neutralising one additional terrorist and recovering another AK-47 rifle.

In a separate intelligence-driven clearance operation in Dutsi Village, Moriki District of Zurmi Local Government Area, sustained pressure from the troops forced the criminals to abandon one AK-47 rifle, a magazine, and 26 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition as they fled.

In Kebbi State, troops acting on credible intelligence moved towards Giron Masa community in Shanga Local Government Area, where elements of the Lakurawa Terrorist Group were reported to be operating. However, the troops were ambushed approximately 500 metres before reaching the village. Despite the surprise attack, the soldiers held their ground. Reinforcements and combat enablers have since been deployed to the area, and intelligence-led efforts are ongoing to track and neutralise the fleeing terrorists.

Military authorities reaffirmed that 8 Division/Sector 2 Operation FANSAN YAMMA remains fully committed to dominating the operational space, degrading the capabilities of terrorist and bandit groups, and safeguarding law-abiding citizens in the North-West region. They noted that the troops continue to demonstrate high motivation, courage, and professionalism in executing directives from the Chief of Army Staff.

These operations form part of the broader sustained military campaign to rid the North-West of banditry, kidnapping, and other forms of criminality, with emphasis on intelligence-driven and coordinated strikes involving ground troops and supporting assets.
