There was an outpouring of joy in Ofougbene Community, located in Iduwini Kingdom of Burutu LGA, Delta State, as High Chief Godfrey Tare Pondi, General Manager of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited, transformed the area with the installation of 200 solar-powered streetlights.
The project has brought an end to years of darkness, illuminating major roads and streets while boosting security and improving the overall quality of life. Residents say the once dim and unsafe environment has now become brighter, safer, and more active at night, encouraging both social and economic activities.
In celebration, community members took to the streets, dancing and singing in appreciation of what they described as a life-changing gesture. The excitement extended beyond Ofougbene, as people from neighboring Oborotu communities also praised the initiative and its wider impact.
Local leaders highlighted that the new lighting system will help reduce crime, support small businesses, and create a more vibrant atmosphere within the community. Many also commended Pondi as a dedicated son of the soil whose roots in Ofougbene are reflected in his commitment to its development.
A community elder described the moment as historic, noting that the project represents hope, progress, and a new beginning for the people.
The development comes as the community prepares for its 2026 Agula Festival, scheduled to hold from March 28th to March 31st, with residents now set to celebrate under brighter and safer surroundings.
