Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his deputy, Obafemi Hamzat, on Saturday led a major environmental clean-up exercise in Mushin, urging residents to stop indiscriminate dumping of waste and take responsibility for keeping their communities clean.
The exercise, which was part of the Lagos State Governmentโs efforts to promote environmental sanitation, saw the governor, the deputy governor and several government officials join sanitation workers and residents to clear refuse from streets, gutters and drainage channels in the area.Speaking during the exercise, Sanwo-Olu warned residents against littering and dumping waste in drainage systems, stressing that such practices contribute to flooding and environmental hazards across the state.
The governor noted that maintaining a clean environment is a shared responsibility and called on residents, market traders and business owners to properly dispose of their waste through approved channels.He also reiterated the governmentโs commitment to enforcing environmental laws and ensuring that individuals or businesses found violating sanitation regulations face appropriate sanctions.
Hamzat, who also addressed residents during the clean-up exercise, encouraged communities to support government initiatives aimed at improving public health and environmental safety.
The clean-up campaign in Mushin forms part of ongoing efforts by the Lagos State Government to promote cleaner neighborhoods and raise awareness about proper waste management across the state.
