Troops of the Nigerian Armyโs 14 Brigade have uncovered several improvised explosive devices (IEDs) hidden inside a forest in Isiala Ngwa North Local Government Area of Abia State.
The discovery was made during a routine clearance and security operation carried out by the troops following credible intelligence on suspicious activities within the area. The explosives were reportedly concealed in strategic locations inside the forest, suggesting they were intended for future use by criminal elements.
Military sources disclosed that the devices were carefully recovered and safely neutralized by the Armyโs explosive ordnance experts, preventing what could have been a major security threat to nearby communities and road users.
The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining aggressive patrols, intelligence-led operations, and collaboration with local communities to flush out criminal hideouts and ensure the safety of residents in Abia State and the South-East region at large.
Residents have been urged to remain calm but vigilant and to promptly report any suspicious movements or items to security agencies, as operations to comb the area are ongoing.
