Four Nigerian soldiers were reportedly killed following a deadly ambush by suspected Boko Haram insurgents in Auno, a community along the MaiduguriโDamaturu highway in Borno State.
According to security sources, the troops were on a reinforcement mission after receiving a distress call from fellow soldiers who had come under attack in the area. While advancing to provide support, the military convoy was ambushed by the insurgents, leading to a fierce exchange of gunfire.
The attack resulted in the deaths of four soldiers, while several others sustained injuries. Reinforcements were later deployed, and the situation was brought under control as the attackers reportedly retreated into nearby bushes.
Borno State has remained a flashpoint of insurgency despite sustained military operations. Authorities are yet to release an official statement, but security forces are said to have intensified patrols and launched a manhunt for the perpetrators. The incident has once again raised concerns over the persistent security challenges in the North-East.
