The Anambra State Police Command has arrested five suspected armed robbers who allegedly disguised themselves as vigilante operatives to carry out attacks on unsuspecting passengers travelling in a shuttle bus within the state.
According to the police, the suspects were apprehended following credible intelligence and swift operational action by officers attached to the command. The gang reportedly used the guise of a local vigilante group to stop vehicles, intimidate passengers and dispossess them of their valuables.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects targeted shuttle buses and other commercial vehicles, pretending to conduct routine security checks before launching coordinated robberies. Items recovered from them include weapons and other materials believed to have been used in their criminal operations.

The Anambra State Commissioner of Police commended the officers involved in the arrest and assured residents that the command remains committed to ridding the state of criminal elements. He also warned criminals against disguising as security or vigilante personnel, stressing that such acts would be met with decisive action.

The suspects are currently in custody and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations. The police further urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest security agency.
