A fresh political storm has erupted in Kano after the state government called for the arrest of former governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and Senate Deputy President Barau Jibrin over alleged incitement.
The government accused the two APC leaders of making statements capable of fueling tension and undermining security in the state. Officials insisted that their actions constituted a threat to public peace and urged security agencies to take immediate action.
Ganduje and Barau, however, have strongly denied the allegations. In separate reactions, they described the claims as baseless, politically motivated, and aimed at silencing opposition voices. They argued that they had made no statements capable of inciting violence and accused the state government of using security concerns as a tool for political intimidation.
The development has deepened the already tense political atmosphere in Kano, with supporters on both sides trading accusations. Security agencies have yet to issue an official response, but observers warn that the escalating political rivalry could heighten instability if not carefully managed.
