At least eight people have been abducted in Biresawa village, Tsanyawa Local Government Area of Kano State, after armed bandits invaded the community late Monday night.
The attackers reportedly stormed the village between 11 p.m. and midnight, seizing six women and two men whose whereabouts remain unknown.Kabiru Usman, a relative of some of the victims, confirmed that the assailants approached on foot from neighbouring Tsundu village, heavily armed.
“They kidnapped my wife, Umma; my 17-year-old daughter, Fati; my brother’s wife; and two other women. We tried to resist, but our weapons were no match for theirs,” he said. Residents had earlier alerted security agencies after receiving information about the bandits’ movement.
The attack was not isolated. Other communities, including Sarmawa, Yan Chibi, and Gano villages, were also hit. About 50 bandits on motorcycles reportedly invaded Yan Chibi, firing into the air to cause panic. Although no deaths were recorded, more than 10 people—mostly women—were abducted. Vigilante groups pursued the attackers but lost track as they fled toward Katsina State.
The persistent insecurity has forced many families to flee their homes, seeking safety in Faruruwa town or relocating to urban centres. Anxiety remains high following previous attacks in Shanono and Bagwai LGAs.Efforts to reach the Kano State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Kiyawa, were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.
The latest incidents come weeks after bandits abducted five women, including nursing mothers, in Yan Kwada village, Faruruwa community, following a military operation that killed 19 bandits.
