A heartbreaking accident has claimed the lives of two friends, Junior Clifford and Mbika, after their Toyota Camry reportedly veered off the road and plunged into a waterlogged ditch at the Osisioma flyover in Aba, Abia State.
According to eyewitness reports, the unfortunate incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, October 28, around 1:00 a.m. The vehicle, which was said to be at high speed, lost control and crashed into a ditch, submerging almost instantly. The heavy impact of the crash trapped the occupants inside the vehicle, making it impossible for passersby to render timely help.
Tragically, both Junior and Mbika died before emergency responders could reach the scene. Their bodies were later retrieved by officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and deposited at a nearby mortuary.
However, a third occupant, identified as a female, is still missing. Search operations were ongoing as of the time of filing this report, as rescuers continued combing the waterlogged area in hopes of recovering her remains.
Confirming the incident, the FRSC Sector Commander in Abia State, Mrs. Ngozi Ezeoma, described the crash as a result of excessive speeding, which caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle.
“Our officers arrived at the scene shortly after the crash and recovered the two male victims who were trapped inside the car. Their bodies have been deposited at the mortuary, while the vehicle, a Toyota Camry, was lifted out of the ditch with the help of a crane,” she said.
The tragic event has thrown residents of Aba and the families of the victims into mourning, with many calling for improved road safety measures and speed control enforcement along the Osisioma axis to prevent further loss of lives.
